Tax Manager Alice Green reflects on her experience of Bishop Fleming's parental coaching programme and the confidence, clarity and support it provided as she navigates motherhood alongside career progression.

Can you tell us a little about your role at Bishop Fleming and your journey so far?

I joined the audit team in September 2019 and transitioned into the personal tax team in January 2022, specialising in trusts, estates and probate. I completed my ACA in July 2022 and later achieved my CTA qualification in November 2025. I was on maternity leave from November 2023 to November 2024.

What encouraged you to take part in the parental coaching programme at Bishop Fleming?

I thought it would be interesting and help me navigate my career alongside being a parent.

What stood out most from the one‑to‑one and group coaching sessions?

The one‑to‑one sessions gave me the space to reflect on what I wanted to achieve before maternity leave and how to work towards those goals. I also found the group sessions incredibly insightful, particularly hearing how other parents manage their work‑life balance. Since returning to work, I’m delighted to have been promoted to manager.

How did the coaching support you with returning to work, building confidence, or managing your work‑life balance?

They helped me focus on what was most important and navigate my return to work, recognising the balance between home life and professional responsibilities.

Are there any practical tips or insights you’d share with others considering a parental programme?

The programme is excellent, and it was only through participating that I realised just how valuable it is -  you’re part of a group of people asking the same questions and going through similar experiences.

I’ve now signed up again as I prepare for the arrival of my second child.

What advice would you give to mothers preparing to return to work?

Take time to consider what you want to achieve in your working life, plan where possible, and set clear boundaries. I’ve found that being open about my needs as a parent has always been welcomed and supported by my managers.
